Loss of Worshipful Brother Laurie Hawkins Print E-mail

It is with profound regret that we report the passing of Worshipful Brother Laurie Hawkins. He became a Freemason when he was initiated by W. Bro. Fred Brown into Lodge Taimau 331 in September 1955. After being transferred through his occupation to Wanganui, he joined Lodge Rutland and was a very active visitor to other lodges. On returning to Auckland, he was elected Worshipful Master in May 1978 and remained a very active brother through his visitations.

With over 40 years with the Otahuhu Railway Workshops, he served his apprenticeship, became manager of the Diesel Department at Parnell, and was the General Manager of the Wanganui Railway Workshops. In his younger days, he was an amateur wrestler and entertained at the local town hall in addition to being a member of the West End Rowing Club.

He was married and is survived by two daughters. He was 94 when he passed.
