We are saddened to report the passing of two our brothers, Ernest Walter Maddox and John Ingram: Brother Ernest Walter Maddox was born in New Zealand on 21 March 1922 and enlisted in the military at the age of 17 to fight in WWII. He eventually became a POW, but escaped towards the end of the war with several of his fellow prisoners. He worked most of his life as a firefighter in Wanganui and was initiated into Freemasonry in November 1983 into the Ara Lodge No. 1. Brother Maddox served as Master in 1991 and died on the 1st of November just prior to his 26th Masonic birthday.
Brother John Gordon Ingram was born on 19 April 1937 in Simla, India where his father was seconded to the Indian Army from the Gordon Highlanders. Until the age of 10, he lived a colourful and privileged life in India moving between Delhi, Simla, and Bombay as weather dictated. He was a Naval Engineering officer and spent many happy years sailing around the world and decided to stay in New Zealand after visiting a family member. He was initiated into Freemasonry in 1971 and served as Master in 1981. Brother Ingram's care for our brothers and our widows was truly exemplary as our Lodge Almoner and he remained an avid sailor, gardener, golfer, world traveler, and family man throughout his life. He died on 14 November and is survived by his wife and two children.
Our brothers will be fondly remembered and their friendships missed.
